Dr. Seuss’ Birthday and Truffala Trees

The Lorax has been one of my favorite Dr. Seuss books since I was a kid. So, it seems only right, that I would honor this book, the week of Dr. Seuss’s birthday, for my son’s class activities. I volunteered to make cupcakes for them on Friday to celebrate the end of the week which is ‘Reading Across America’ which includes Dr. Seuss’s birthday.

So, of course, I hit Pinterest in search of ideas. When I saw these Truffala Trees made out of pixie sticks and pom-poms, I knew that that’s what I wanted to do for a cupcake decoration.

Instead of using pixie sticks, as the person did on Pinterest, I used decorative straws. The pom-poms came in a large bag of different sizes and I use the largest size. I bought all these items at Hobby Lobby.

It was basically just a few minutes of work with my glue gun. These trees will now just stick into the top of a cupcake that has white icing with green sprinkles on top to make it look like grass.

Monday was wear your wacky or favorite hat. He represented in his Auburn hat.

Tuesday was tacky tourist day. Cuteness.

Read a few Dr. Seuss books this week to your kids.

Happy Halloween

My son’s Halloween party was actually last Friday because his teacher’s daughter is getting married tomorrow and she was gone this whole week. So, I signed up to do their Halloween goodie bags. I had some similar to these on my ETSY account and decided to use them for his class too. I let him help pick out what was going to go on the front and he liked the bat the best. I made 16 of them while sitting at the eye doc office last week. Some people bring a book to the doc office…I bring paper crafts. ;). Hope you and your family have a great night of trick or treating tonight. Happy Haunting.

Here is another gift idea for you to do for teachers and such… We made these for school teachers, Bible class teachers, preachers, etc…

Football Birthday Party

Yes, this post is really behind, seeing that we had this party at the end of February…BUT, you would not have known that if I had not opened my big fat mouth.  :)  The helmet cake was made using a Wilton cake pan.  If anyone would like to purchase this one from me, I will sell it for $8 plus shipping.  I bought it for $14 and only used it this once.  Email me at if you would like to buy it.  :)  Here are a few ideas if you are planning a football party….

Football cupcakes that he took to school on his birthday and then I made some more for the party.  Rice Krispie Treats for the kids’ take home (placed into a clear bag with football decoration on top).

Following those pics are a couple cards that I made for a few of his friends who had football themed birthday parties a few months before his party that I never posted.  One was an Auburn fan and the other was an Alabama fan.  War Eagle.  :)

Canvas Valentine Banner

Well, today is the second “snow day” for all 4 of us today.  It snowed here yesterday and all schools around us have been canceled until the roads get better.   Even the University where my hubby works is canceled.  Yippee.  He got to stay home with us and play in the whopping 1 inch of snow we got that has closed down our town.  :)  It really isn’t the snow that has closed us down, it is the ice on the roads that have led to the closing of all schools and such around us.  When we have a day like this, I always feel I start a little later in my day than normal.  I am used to getting up at 4:40am to exercise, do my Bible reading and just have some quiet time to myself before the whole family gets up.  Well, not today.  Today I slept in.  I will have to rearrange my time today.  I haven’t even had a shower which is something that is usually done by 6:30am every morning.

So, here I sit, while the kids are eating a late breakfast and watching cartoons, to blog about my Valentine’s Banner that I made using the Canvas Banner Pieces from SU!.  These were sold in the Holiday Catalog and yes, I have just gotten around to using some out of the two boxes that I purchased. They were easy to use and I love the way this banner turned out.  An easy, cute and simple project that now hangs on my mantel for only a little while longer.  It has been hanging for a few weeks and I just love it.  I will be sad to take it down.  I don’t know what holiday I will decorate for next.  Maybe a “Spring” themed one?

Hope you enjoy the project and make one for yourself soon!

Fall Centerpiece

Pinterest.  Saved October.  Again.

I saw this idea a while ago and couldn’t wait to  make this centerpiece for the fall this year.  I finally got around to it last week.  My Mom was coming and I wanted to get it done before she got here.  I bought the vase at a garage sale for $2!  And then, it is as easy as it looks.  Get a large candle, split peas, kidney beans and popcorn…layer as you like.  Viola!  Done and super cute!

Have a great day and remember, it is always homemade!

Transformers….More Than Meets The Eye…

Yep, that’s right, my 5 year old son is addicted to Transformers.  Everything in our house can be transformed in some way.  Not literally.  Only in his mind.  Although sometimes I think he might TRY to transform some things that shouldn’t be…

These are the decorations for his party tonight.  He is so excited and I know getting him off to preschool will be a joyous occasion for me because he won’t be asking me every 3 seconds when will his party begin!  While he is gone today, I will be hanging up the banner, finishing the cake and praying I have all the party details together.  It’s my OCD again, I tell ya.

The photo above will be for the front door to our house.  We are going bowling and then returning here for cake and ice cream.

These are 2 of 6 banner pieces.  They will be strung on a ribbon above the birthday chair of honor.

These are the take home bags.  Cute, but simple.  Believe me, little boys don’t care.

And the cake, well it isn’t done yet….but it is homemade!  :-). Pictures soon….

Stampin’ UP! Party and Goodies!

First of all, if you want to be in the drawing for my GIVEAWAY this week, go HERE and just leave a comment and you will be entered into the drawing NEXT Friday! (If this link doesn’t work, just scroll down to the last post)

Last night, I asked Beth to come to the house and do a Stampin’ UP! Party for me and several of my friends! It was a blast and everyone had lots of fun! We ate, crafted, and just got to know each other better. How much more fun could you get?? We made two cards and one envelope which are seen below. How cute are these?

As Hostess, I got one of every card that was made by Beth as she demonstrated the products. This is the extra card that she made last night (seen below) I also lucked up and received the basket (seen below) made from their new fabric line. Soooooooo cute! I was super excited! Their fabric is soooo cute and trendy!

I did “decorate” just a little bit and I also gave out a thank you gift to everyone who came and spent time out of their lives to come and see all the great Stampin’ UP! products. The pics are below. So easy and fun. Directions for the water bottles will be featured on the blog sometime in July. Sorry, you have to wait till then! ;). Have a great day and remember, it is always homemade!

P.S.: Beth has a blog and is listed in my blog list on the right side of my blog page. It is Southern Inkerbelles! She has some great ideas and fun projects all the time! Enjoy!

Superhero Baby Shower Decorations

Well, it finally came and went last Friday night!  My friend’s Superhero Baby Shower.  She is having her third boy in March and her husband as well as her boys LOVE Superheros, so, we went with this for the theme of the shower too!  I had a blast making stuff for the shower…she really liked all the decorations!  It was kind of “out of the box” but it went over really well.  Here are a few things that were made by me and others for the shower!  Enjoy!!?
Superhero Door Hanging
This was on the front door when everyone came in.  It is simply all paper and ribbon.  The squares are 8 1/2 x 8 1/2 and the symbols were cut out on the Cricut using my SCAL software.  She took this home to hang in the boys’ room.
Skyline Board
This sat behind the food on the table.  This picture is hard to see but there is a Spiderman on the left hand side, swinging between the buildings, a Superman in the sky and a Batman on the right hand side on top of the building, facing the “Batman Symbol” in the sky.  The Batman symbol is made of vellum, and was created in my SCAL software.  A couple of girls came up with this idea for the back of the table and my husband and I created it!  It turned out great.  Adding all the superheros was my husband’s idea!
Superhero Lollipops
These were inspired by Pinterest!  If you go on and search “superhero lollipops” a similar version comes up for boy valentine ideas.  Their cape had hearts on the back and said something like “you’re super”.  I designed these in my SCAL software and made them Superman, Batman and Spiderman lollipops instead.  I put them into a little Batman can that I got at Target for one dollar!  I inserted a foam cone shape and stuck the lollipops down into it and covered it with black paper that I ran through my paper shredder!  Everyone took one home for their boys!
I designed this in my SCAL software as well.  I cut out the Superman diamonds and adhered the letters to them, hung them on black ribbon, and called it done!  So cute.

Diaper Cake/Burp Cloths
A friend had this designed by a girl she works with!  How cool does this look????  The Superman words and symbol are both iron-ons so she could take these home and make something with them for the baby.  She made these very cute superhero and robot burp cloths and table cloth as well!  They turned out great!

The Cake/Cupcakes
?The cake turned out so cute, don’t you think!!!  The superhero cupcakes were adorable!  We saw the cupcakes on Pinterest…they were just baby faces, but my friend turned them into masked superheros!  How awesome is she???  She did the cake and cupcakes and it all turned out so cute and yummy!!  I never knew she had so much talent!  :-)  We told her that she was going to become the “cake lady” now that everyone knew she could do this!

The shower was a great success and it was lots of fun creating all these fun decorations!  It is always an adventure when it is homemade!!!
