Wednesdays in May: Dust It Off #2

image

Yep.  I missed my deadline for Wednesday…but I do have a GOOD excuse.  :)  It was Field Day at my son’s school.  See the proof below.  :)  It was a long day….my hubby went in the morning, and my daughter and I went in the afternoon.  We left soaking wet and very happy…and a bit tired.  :)  Not to mention the fact that my 3 year old daughter had a rash appear where I had put sunscreen on her…not cool.  But, with a few doses of Zyrtec and some hydro-cortisone cream, she is on the mend.

So, today, instead of yesterday, I “dusted” off a few stamp sets and used a new product.  The new product was a Project Life (PL) card from the Kraft Core Kit.  I have acquired 3 Core Kits in the last few weeks….all for $20 or less.  Yep, that is how I roll.  The old sets are being replaced which means, the old ones are on sale online and a Hobby Lobby coupon was involved as well.  I will not lie.  I am weeks (too many to count) behind in my PL album for this year.  My plan is to take the pictures with me, as well as the core kits and embellishments, to Florida in a few weeks when the kids and I go to visit my parents.  I hope to get some of my 2011 album worked on as well…I just have to get those pictures out and separated before then…

So, I had to work with one of those PL cards on my baby shower card for tonight.  We are throwing another baby shower tonight at church and this is for the Mother-to-be…this is her third boy.  Bless her.  :)  I also used my Zoo Babies stamp set from SU! which is another stamp set I have not used lately.

Also, as a gift to those who win our fun little baby shower games, I made each winner two birthday cards to use whenever they so choose.  When you come to baby showers set up by me, you get card sets as a gift for games.  That should be a given…

Mondays in May: Sketch #2

image

Today, I am not using a “sketch” exactly but it uses the same part of your brain as a sketch does….it is looking for a quick idea on Google when you are need of quick, simple layout.  I needed to make a few graduation cards for some High School students who attend church services with us.  So, to Google I went…

I found this…and went from there and adapted it to what I wanted to do…

I made 8 in just a little while.  I cut all the pieces, stamped in stages and made an assembly line.  Quick, easy and a great little card for a few graduates.  Also, after I took these pictures, I added a little glitter from my Wink of Stella Glitter Pen to give a little sparkle to the grey balls on the banner.

Fridays in May: Treat Box

image

It’s Friday!  Wooooo-Whoooo!  Today, I don’t have anything I HAVE to do except a little laundry that won’t take too long…hopefully.  I actually MADE my Friday project this week.  How cute is this?  Perfect for a quick treat for a teacher or just someone you want to take a treat too for no reason at all.  :)

This box is yet another using the envelope punch board.  I LOVE that thing!  I have used it so much since receiving it at Christmas this past year.  The video tutorial is below.  Enjoy!

When At First You Don’t Succeed…Cover It Up

image

…Try, try again?  Nope.  Not in my world.  Who has time for that?

Apple-shaped sugar cookies…a great gift for the week of teacher appreciation, right?  Right.  But, be prepared that you won’t get that red icing as RED as you would like.  I know that red icing is HARD to conquer, but I didn’t even get close.  The darkest I got was a light pink.  Can’t have pink apples now can we?  Well, I decided to cover it up because I did not have the time (or energy, mind you) to start over on something else.  I ran (not literally) to Walmart in search of a “cover up” for my epic fail.  I found these glittery red sprinkles and decided that was what I would try.  I returned home praying that this would work.  I iced the cookies, covered the icing in red sprinkles and voila….a very cute mistake.  Cute enough, that is, to send them on to school.  They tasted good too.  :)  So, the moral of the story is not the age long saying to “try, try again”.  Nope.

“When at first you don’t succeed, cover it up.”  Words to live by people.  :-)

Wednesdays in May: Dust It Off

image

My Wednesdays in the month of May will be using a product that I have not used at all before or haven’t used in a really long time…one that I might have to “dust off” before I get it out and ready to use.  Today, I will use 3 new items that I have not opened yet.  Two stamp sets that I received a little over a week ago and a PL card set that I bought this past week.

The PL cards I have been wanting to get out and incorporate some into my cards at times…obviously I need to keep the bulk for scrapbooking but I know that I may not use every single card in a scrapbook…

So, I decided to cut these two cards down and use them on my card today.  This is such a simple card yet it is sooooo cute.  The cards give it some color and then I just added some linen thread, a few stamps and some glossy accents to it and voila…it is done and cute in just a few minutes.

Mondays in May: Sketch Challenge

image

As promised for the Mondays in May, I am working off of a sketch today.  I came upon this website yesterday that had some neat sketches.  So, I decided to use one of them for the project today.

I pulled up the saved sketch…

image

Pulled out some paper to work with…

image

And whipped up a (what I think is) a cute little card…  A masculine type actually which I really wasn’t going for until it all came together.  We all need a masculine card now and then and a lot of times, in that case, I have to make one with that thought in mind.  As you can see, you can add just about any type of sentiment stamp to this that you would like to send.

I love the dashed circle, by the way…

Envelope Punch Board: Treat Box

Well, I know this isn’t Friday as planned but one day late is okay, right?  Between Teacher Appreciation week projects, baseball games, finding something to do with 2 gallons of hand picked strawberries, husband being out of town and just life in general, blogging yesterday just didn’t happen.  Neither did me sitting down to work at my craft table.  I made 6 lbs. of strawberries disappear into homemade strawberry pie filling instead.  Well.  Worth.  It.  Oh, and we still have strawberries left….what to do, what to do…

Anyway, I planned on making this box for you but I never got around to doing it yesterday.  So, I thought I would still post the video for you so that you could make one, or more, for you own use.  Enjoy!

PS:  If you enjoy this video, subscribe to her on YouTube.  She has great videos each week!!

Harry Potter Fan??

image

So, today, I am using a product that I have not used but one time since I bought it…It is a die cut that includes 4 pairs of glasses.  The glasses are small and great to use in so many ways.  I want to say I only spent about $5 for this cute little die.

image

The reason for these cards:  My husband and I were in desperate need of a “date night” and so we got a young couple from church who came to keep the kids for us.  We were going out to celebrate my birthday that was several weeks ago and my husband receiving tenure at his University.  The date was overdue but with his travel schedule in the last couple months, baseball and life in general we just got around to going out to celebrate.  The couple refused payment for the job of babysitting that night so I had to do SOMETHING for them.  Well, she is a huge Harry Potter fan.  When I started thinking of how to incorporate that into a card set, this die cut immediately came to mind.  I used the die cut for the Harry Potter glasses, a hand cut stencil for the lightening bolt, glossy accents for the lens on the glasses and topped them off with printing a Harry Potter quote/related saying on the card itself.  I had so much fun making these and while out with the hubby, we (or I should say “he”) came up with some other ideas for Harry Potter cards.  So fun!

And here are a couple of other cards I made with this die cut set…  Along with the dies I used my Lawn Fawn stamp set “It’s Clear To See”.

Fiskars…Best. Company. Ever.

image

I forgot to post this awhile back but better late than never, right?

Fiskars.  Best.  Company.  Ever.  This is why…

Below is a picture of what happened to my Fiskars trimmer.  You know that wire that shows you exactly where it is going to cut the paper?  Well, for some reason mine started to fray.  It was really strange.  So, I got on the computer and contacted customer service just to see what my options were.  I really did not want to go re-purchase another $30 trimmer that was in great condition (other than the frayed wire).  And I told them so.  Well, out of nowhere, I received a box in the mail from them that contained a whole new arm piece.  Yep.  Free of charge.  Frankly, I was floored but I had heard that Fiskars was good about things like this.  I am so glad I took that chance before I went and spent more money on something I received for FREE.  I will never buy another type of trimmer because of this act of great customer service.

Hey There Friend

image

Yes, in case you were wondering, it has been two weeks since I blogged.  It has been a little crazy around here lately.  I have been crafting some but life has just gotten in front of the world of blogging the last few weeks.  Below are some things that have been going on….but, right now, on to the card above.  :)

I am going to make a schedule for the month of May.  It will help me keep up with blogging.

Mondays:  Use a sketch to make a card

Wednesdays:  Use a product I have never used or one I haven’t used in a really long time

Fridays:  A box or treat idea

You may also see some Project Life stuff mixed in…I need to catch up a little bit!

Alright, it is written down and now I HAVE to stick with it, right?  :)

Mondays:  Use a Sketch

Sometimes, I just need to go look at sketches.  Sometimes, my brain just doesn’t work to make a whole new design on its own.  :)  So, this is where this card idea came from.  I went searching into the MOJO Monday sketches and picked one out that I liked and went to work.  The original sketch is below…

image

I had purchased some 6×6 paper pads at Tuesday Morning that I really wanted to use quickly.  I loved the prints and so I picked out these and I used them all except for the “Hello” letters.  It just wouldn’t work with the look that I was going for….so, I will use those for another project down the road I am sure.

Here is the sketch I picked out.  Obviously, mine is a little different but it got my mind working and gave me a general layout to work with with my supplies.

So, here is a look as to what has been going on in our lives in the last couple of weeks.  A few months ago, the house next door to us caught fire in the middle of the night and burnt to the ground.  It was an eventful night, one that my daughter is still having problems with when going to bed.  Hopefully that will pass soon.  In the midst of the chaos, our siding on that side of the house melted off the house.  But, I am so thankful that that is all the damage we had that night.  It could have been a whole lot worse!  So, we are now having the siding on the house redone.  You can see the color change in this picture.  We really like the change and hopefully the work will be done today.  It has been loud the last few days around here.  :)

image

Also, we have planted our first official garden.  It has been fun and so far we haven’t killed anything.  :)  We had horrible weather just two days after we planted and it made it through the floods and tornadoes we had in the area.  So, so far so good, right?

image

Yesterday, I used the first basil and some parsley in some homemade tomato sauce.  It was yummy.  Fresh herbs always make it a little bit better…

image

Also, my laptop has died (insert sad music).  That has halted a lot of Cricut projects I had planned and such, but I am presently typing on a new laptop.  Best Buy had a “Mother’s Day” sale and we took advantage of it!  Working with Windows 8 for the first time will take some getting used to but I think I will manage.  :)  My wonderful, awesome husband installed my SCAL software last night.  After some trouble shooting, he finally got it to work!  He is my knight in shining armor!  So, there will be some Cricut projects done this week for sure.  I have missed it so much!!

On another note, this week is Teacher Appreciation Week.  I have some things to get ready and lots to put together.  I will share soon!
